The Ministry of Agricultural Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies - in collaboration with the protection Consortia and the producers - has achieved an important result for the international protection of Geographical Indications. As part of the procedure for the implementation of the free trade agreement between the EU and Singapore, Italy has obtained registration and protection by the competent local authorities (Intellectual Property Office of Singapore - IPOS). The procedure includes 36 Geographical Indications among them Aceto Balsamico di Modena, Prosciutto di Parma, Prosciutto di San Daniele, Asiago, Fontina, Gorgonzola, Grana Padano, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, Arancia Rossa di Sicilia, Mele dell'Alto Adige, Grappa, Chianti, Francia corta, Prosecco, and several other among the most important Italian Geographical Indications. The conclusion of the assessment procedure by IPOS will wait for further protection and registration applications submitted by the Italian Consortia. Following this important result, the Minister said: "The bilateral agreement signed with Singapore is a truly significant result for the entire Italian agri-food system. It allows us to have the legal instrument necessary to defend our geographical indications against imitations that damage not only Italian producers but also local consumers. This procedure ensure the eradication of risked products sold as Italians that have nothing in common with ours high quality standards and strict controls over the supply chain”.
"Today is an historic day for the Veneto and the whole Italy. The Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are finally, and rightly so, a World Heritage Site. A great recognition that enhances the extraordinary scenic qualities and traditions of a cultural landscape unique of exceptional world value. A land from which the fruits are born that give life to one of the products that most characterizes the excellence of our Made in Italy ". The Minister of Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies Sen. Gian Marco Centinaio comments with satisfaction from Baku on the inclusion of the hills of the Prosecco di Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the UNESCO world heritage sites list. The decision was made official today in the Azeri capital during the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Committee. "This result enriches the set of Italian sites and assets present in the prestigious UNESCO list - emphasizes Centinaio - and confirms, once again, the great global attention to the natural and cultural heritage of our country. This recognition is a starting point for the future. Now the challenge that awaits us is that of preserving the specific and traditional characteristics of this splendid territory as a heritage to be transmitted to future generations, for the benefit of the entire Humanity, "concludes Centinaio.
The Ministry of Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies have published the list of wine protection Consortia, updated to 27 May 2019, pursuant to art. 41 of Law no. 238 of 12 December 2016. On the institutional portal of the Ministry, in the Quality section, the update is available.
The CREA Olivicoltura Frutticoltura Agrumicoltura di Rende, in collaboration with the Cosenza section of the Unione Italiana Ciechi e Ipovedenti, SISSPre s.r.l. an innovative start-up in the Agrifood sector and the olive oil company OLI TUCCI will present the accessibility label on 10 April 2019, at 10:00 am in Cosenza, in the Palazzo della Provincia. Over one and a half million people with visual impairments do not have access to information on consumer products in Italy. By incorporating the Braille language and modern technologies for the application of a narrative label, consumers that have been limited by insurmountable barriers that the market presents, even if invisible, can have more autonomy in their choices and overall greater accessibility in Italy.
